I have had many people ask me “How do I get my Harmony remote to control my receiver’s multi room audio?”

Commonly, people think this cannot be done. However, it is possible for almost every modern receiver- I have personally had success with most. Some older receivers run off a “Contact Closure” circuit- this type of circuit requires you to physically press a button on the receiver, and when you press this button it connects contacts to output to the second zone. New receivers are always on standby power, though, and this means the receiver can automatically make the contact. This allows the Harmony to tell it when to output to zone 2.

For best results use any Harmony. For more intuitive control, Use model 890 and above.

  1. Setup all components before attempting to configure zone 2.
  2. Go to Devices in Harmony software.
  3. Re add the exact same receiver.
  4. Rename it Saying Zone 2 after “Receiver, Amp or Processor”. (eg. Onkyo TX-507 Zone 2)
  5. Re configure all activities.
  6. Make sure that you tell it to keep the monitor off.
  7. Enjoy audio in Zone 2.
